Come to our little crisis ...

The financial crisis in the United States and Europe got to us as well in the form of an emotional vortex. Due to the governmental complaints at the Constitutional Court in relation to groups 1 and 2 of pensioners, plus the ones against a law that allowed a 50% increase in the salaries of the teachers, we live our own little crisis. The big one didn’t get to us because it failed to catch the plane, to cross the ocean or even a couple of major borders. When it will come, the real crisis that is, we'll have big problems. And, since we express our originality in everything, we've made your mark at present as well. The exchange rate in Romania did not fluctuate to 4 lei because of the fall of investment banks in the United States or because the foreign banks in Romania needed cash to transfer to the countries of origin, but because the signal of instability and budgetary chaos was given. There appeared a feeling that all that seemed fixed, certain, set in the budget is not so.

After the pensioners, for which the authorities granted increases even though the President said the public pension system would go bankrupt, the Parliament became the main loan source, voting a law without any coverage in the current budgetary possibilities, but that has been desired and expected by the teachers for a long time. Absolutely natural, seeing the availability of the Government for pensioners and for the teachers, the clerks, the doctors and even the journalists from the public service want to receive more money. The average salary requirements got between 25% and 60%. Now, an increase of 8% -9%, directly proportional to the economic growth, seems unacceptable.

Minister Vosganian described the disastrous results of an increase by 50% in the teachers’ salaries. He didn’t even dare to make the calculations for the phantasmagoric case in which all budgetary salaries would increase by such a percentage. The effect would be a tough one for the Romanian economy as a whole and heart-rending for us all. How about the two-digit inflation, which would turn us back in time, at a clean 10%? What about giving up on at least 30% of the investment? But the scary part comes from the VAT, which could reach 28%. That would send many people directly to bankruptcy. We will all become a more united and happier nation, when there will be no more exceptions: pensions from the state of 300 million ROL or salary from the state of 20,000 euros. Everyone will be more unitive and we will able to say that we live in a fair, unbiased system, equal to those who have worked the same, with the same education and experience. As long as every socio-professional category catches a break, an aisle, a minister or head of a parliamentary committee that, with a great speed, provides a differentiation of income, it is absolutely normal for the people to get out on the streets to claim their rights. The so-called rights, because they are valid only if compared to a favored category, not as a whole.

The positive discrimination of certain Romanians brought us in such a situation that, although there is a crisis in the world, our little crisis will affect us more. The National Bank is the only mature institution in Romania at this moment. The ones who throw stones at it will not succeed. It doesn’t matter that Dinu Patriciu, a person without worries, said it would have been better for us to be like the Bulgarians, and have a Monetary Council. The big war is about to put us down, if our internal struggle gives so much trouble to us.
