Jurnalul National Is Number 1! The Jurnalul Supplements Rock!

At the beginning of this week, the Audit Bureau of Circulations in Romania (BRAT) has announced the results of the National Circulations’ Study (SNA) for the period April 2005-April 2006. Jurnalul National has been confirmed as the number one newspaper in the chart of the Circulations of the quality newspapers in Romania, with 761,400 readers per day.

Besides the confirmation of the first position, for the first time, the new SNA has referred to the five supplements edited by Jurnalul National.

CIRCULATIONS. Together, they reach 1,270,000 unique readers, and the circulations for each supplement are as follows: 377,800 for "Editie de colectie" (The Collection Issue), 447,300 for "Jurnalul de sanatate" (The Health Supplement), 451,100 for "Jurnalul de bucatarie" (The Kitchen Supplement), 312,400 for "Jurnalul casei mele" (My House Supplement), 578,300 for "Jurnalul TV" (The Jurnalul TV Guide). The family income for most of the readers of the Jurnalul National supplements is somewhere between 301 and 700 RON, more than a third live in Bucharest, and most of them live in cities with a population of more than 200,000.

Here is some information about the profile of our supplements’ readers. "The Collection Issue" supplement, which appears on Mondays, has 377,800 readers, 51% of which are people aged between 35 and 44 and between 45 and 54. 43.2% of these have university or college education, and 23.6% are employees in leading or university positions. The greatest affinity rate for this supplement is recorded in the Mass media/ Press direction (312), followed by the Public Administration and the Juridical direction.

The Health supplement appears on Tuesdays and is read mainly by women (61.8%). A third of the readers have graduated from high school and the highest affinity rate is in the Juridical and Public Administration directions. Having 447,300 readers, this supplement shows the Romanians’ interest in health. As expected, the Wednesday supplement, the one regarding the kitchen ("Jurnalul de Bucatarie"), is mostly read by women 66.2%, and attracts mainly the readers in Public Administration, Mass media/Press and Real Estate. Like in the other cases, here, 49% of the 451,100 readers have graduated from high school, industrial school or college, and 22.1% of them have university education.

On Thursdays, Jurnalul National offers its readers the "My House" supplement, which is read by 312,400 people. The people most interested in building or improving their houses work in Public Administration (201), in the Juridical system and in Mass media/Press and more than a quarter of the readers have university education.

THE MOST READ. According to the SNA results, the most read supplement appears on Fridays: "Jurnalul TV" (The Jurnalul TV Guide), with 578,300 readers, 51.5% of which are women. Most of the readers, 60.2%, are aged between 14 and 44, and the highest affinity rates appear in the directions of Public Administration, Mass media/Press and Army/Police/Other security services. Most of the readers of the Jurnalul TV guide (67.7%) have graduated from high school, industrial school or college or have university education.

SNA is made every three months by the Audit Bureau of Circulations in Romania (BRAT) and offers information on the number of the readers, as well as social-demographic data about them. The study was performed on 16,105 people, which are representative for the Romanian population in the urban localities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, with ages between 14 and 64 years. The affinity rate measures the report between the readers having a certain characteristic and the national total. The higher the number is in comparison to 100, the more readers with that characteristic we find in the newspaper than at national level.
