Sharp Dive In Budgetary Revenues

30 Dec 2008   •   00:00

The budget revenues shrank by 36% between 1 and 23 December 2008, when compared with the same period last year, reaching an aggregate value of 3.068 billion lei, the Ministry of the Economy and Finance said.

At the same time both the consolidated and the social security budgets took a dive in their revenues, with 3.37%, or 8.077 billion lei, and 16.61%, or 361.26 million lei, respectively.

PM Emil Boc said on December 23 that the new Executive would have to find solutions for a new budget draft and not give up, in spite of information about poor budget revenues in the past month.
The new government will have in January a clearer evaluation of the past year's finances and expected results for next year, to asess the current situation.

Social democrat party president Mircea Geoana said yesterday that the Ministry of Finance would assess the budgetary resources, as “things are worse than anticipated.” He added that the priorities his party run the electoral campaign on would be part of the budgetary provisions for the next year.

The consolidated budget revenues for the first 11 months of 2008 reached 139.08 billion, up 26.,8% from the same period the year before, when they amounted to 109.68 billion lei. State budget revenues had the highest hike in the first 11 months, up 28.7% at a total amount of 87.66 billion lei.
